The Ida Ryogokudo Zazen dojo was located in Chiba, about 45 minutes outside of Tokyo. The dormitory like building housed around 15 or 20 of Sensei’s students. I stayed here for four years, sitting four or more times per day. All of us were required to have day jobs as Nishijima Roshi stressed the importance of integrating Zen practice with society. I gained a lot of inspiration from many of Sensei’s students, Jeremy Pearson, Nissim Amon, Mike Luetchford (who visited twice during my stay), Christov, Hagar, Ben, Taijin, Fred, Alma, Gareth, Andy, Mioay, Victor, Moro and many others.

This photo was taken of the sign just to the right of the door to the Dojo – you can make it out in this photo as well.
